| August 5, 2009 | Steve Sweet | The vaudeville comedian W.C. Fields was once
asked by a character in one of his movies the following question: " How could you lie to these people who trusted you ?!" His response: " Did you ever try to lie to anyone that didn't ?" I am originally from Illinois. The last honest politician to come out of that state bore the first name of Abraham... PLEASE BEGIN TO REFER TO OUR ELECTED LEADERS AND OFFICIALS AS "SERVANTS". |

| June 17, 2009 | Andy Canino | We are concentrating on "education", and that is important, however we should also be looking at issues that have been affecting most of us who live in HAWL for some time. Most of us are on Social Security, and are being taxed on our benefits on up to 85% of such benefits. Since we all paid taxes on these funds while we were working, we shouldn\'t have to be taxed on this again. In addition, we must include, on our tax returns the "Gross" am't of SS benefits which includes our medicare premium......so we are being taxed on that as well. This is a grand rip-off which has been going on for years. I feel strongly that we should address this issue and meet with our local elected officials to hopefully get a movement started in congress to remove this double taxation imposed on senior citizens all over the country. You know the old saying, "The squeaky wheel gets the oil" I believe that an issue like this one will inspire our members to get more involved. In contrast, I feel that without an issue such as this, the attendance to our meetings will continue to wane, and the group may soon disappear. |

I like the new email notifications format, and the cleanness of the new website. Congratulations! I am out of town frequently so will miss the next meeting, but I do everything possible to attend when I\'m in town. I also attend in Tyler when possible, and look forward to Audrey's class. Thanks to you all for all the hard work you do - I'm confident we can take back this country! |
